Tintype Pop-Up at Whalebone Flagship
Saturday, August 29 — 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Sunday, August 30 — 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Salt Born is a small selection of work from The LIFERS Project, presented at Whalebone. The LIFERS Project began in skateboarding and has since expanded across action sports, following people who share a common thread: chasing their passion through every season of life. Salt Born turns that lens on surfers and watermen, captured through the wet-plate collodion process — a tintype technique dating back to the 1850s. Following the opening, I'll be on site offering live tintype portrait sittings, one-on-one, from hand-pouring the plate to developing it in front of you. Spots are limited each day — reserve yours below.
● Sunday, Aug 30 sittings run 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ● Book your session above

The LIFERS Project Presents Salt Born: A Tintype Portrait Show at Whalebone, Montauk NY
The LIFERS Project Comes to Whalebone: A Tintype Portrait Show and Live Pop-Up in Montauk, NY
Montauk, NY — This August, Whalebone in Montauk will host LIFERS, an exhibition of tintype portraits capturing surfers and watermen, alongside a weekend of live tintype portrait sittings open to the public.
The show opens Friday, August 28th, with a celebration featuring beer from New Belgium and live music. On view will be the LIFERS series — a body of work shot in 2015 using the wet-plate collodion process, one of photography's oldest techniques, dating back to the 1850s. Each image is a one-of-a-kind tintype, hand-poured and developed on site at the time of exposure, giving every portrait a depth and physical presence that modern photography rarely captures.
The subjects of LIFERS are surfers and watermen — people whose identities are shaped by a lifelong relationship with the ocean. The portraits aim to reflect that history and character through a medium as enduring as the subjects themselves.
Following the opening, the show continues through the weekend with a live tintype pop-up at Whalebone on Saturday, August 29th, and Sunday, August 30th. Visitors will have the opportunity to sit for their own tintype portrait, watching the process unfold in real time — from plate preparation to exposure to development — and take home a piece of photographic history that's entirely their own.
LIFERS runs August 28th through August 30th at Whalebone in Montauk, NY.

Outer Range Brewery Tintype Pop-Up · Frisco CO
Experience a one-of-a-kind wet plate collodion tintype
portrait made by hand at Outer Range Brewery in Frisco,
Colorado. Denver photographer Matt Alberts brings his portable
darkroom to one of Colorado's most beloved breweries for
two days only — July 17 & 18 — creating pure silver
portraits using a 19th-century photographic process. Each portrait is hand-poured on aluminum or glass,
exposed in the camera, and developed on location in
minutes. The image is made of pure silver — not ink,
not pixels. It will never fade, never corrupt, and never become obsolete.
No two plates are ever identical. Yours is the only one that will ever exist exactly as it is.
DATES & TIMES
· Thursday July 17 — 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
· Friday July 18 — 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Tintype Popup during Food & Wine in Aspen, CO
Radio Boardshop Tintype Pop-Up · Food & Wine Weekend.
June 19th–20th · Radio Boardshop · Aspen, Colorado
For two days this June, I'll be setting up my wet plate studio at Radio Boardshop in Aspen — bringing one of the oldest photographic processes in existence to the mountains.
Each portrait is made using the wet plate collodion process, the same technique used by photographers in the 1850s. There are no digital files, no prints, no duplicates. What you walk away with is a one-of-a-kind silver original — an alumitype on metal or glass, varnished by hand, and built to outlast everything made after it.
This is heirloom photography in the most literal sense. A single exposure. A single object. Something your family will still have in 150 years.
Appointments are limited. Reserve your session now.
